Our Services

With our state of the art equipment Globe Stainless has the capabilities to provide you with practically any custom sized blank, bar, sheet or slit coil that you may require. Because we carry only stainless steel we have installed machinery that is designed and engineered specifically for processing stainless steel allowing us to produce the finest quality product available. This also eliminates any chance of contamination from different types of steel being processed on the same equipment.

Slitting

Globe Stainless uses a Branner Slitter to process stainless steel coil by precisely cutting wide master coils into narrower coils of specific widths required by customers or for further manufacturing processes. Here’s how the process generally works:

  1. Loading the Master Coil
  • A large stainless steel master coil is mounted on an uncoiler at the start of the slitting line.
  • The coil is unwound and guided into the slitting section.
  1. Slitting with the Branner Slitter
  • The Branner Slitter, a precision slitting machine, is equipped with rotary slitting knives (circular blades) arranged in matched sets above and below the strip.
  • These blades are adjusted to specific widths based on the required slit sizes.
  • As the stainless steel strip passes through the knives, it is cut into multiple narrower strips simultaneously with tight tolerances and clean edges.
  1. Tension and Edge Control
  • Tension is maintained on the strip during slitting to prevent edge waves, camber, or burrs.
  • Globe Stainless emphasizes edge quality and precision, making this step critical.
  1. Recoiling
  • After slitting, the narrower strips are rewound onto separate recoilers or gathered together on one recoiler with spacers between the cuts.
  • Each slit coil is banded and labeled for traceability, quality assurance, and shipment.
  1. Quality Control
  • The slit coils are inspected for edge burrs, width accuracy, camber, and surface finish to ensure they meet customer specs.
  • Branner slitters are known for repeatable accuracy and durability, supporting Globe Stainless’s high standards for flatness and surface quality.

This slitting capability allows Globe Stainless to service industries like aerospace, automotive, medical, and food processing by offering custom-width stainless coils ready for stamping, forming, or further fabrication.

Leveling

Globe Stainless uses a Red Bud leveler as part of a precision leveling and cut-to-length line to process stainless steel coil into flat, custom-length sheets. The Red Bud Industries equipment is known for producing extremely flat, stress-relieved material, which is essential for downstream fabrication processes. Here’s how Globe Stainless typically uses the Red Bud leveler:

  1. Uncoiling the Master Coil
  • A large stainless steel master coil is loaded onto an uncoiler.
  • The coil is unwound and fed into the Red Bud line using automated feed systems.
  1. Threading into the Leveler
  • The strip is guided into the Red Bud precision leveler, a machine that uses a series of small, closely spaced rolls arranged in alternating top and bottom sets.
  • These rolls bend the material up and down repeatedly, beyond its yield point, to eliminate:
    • Coil set (natural curve from coiling)
    • Crossbow
    • Edge wave
    • Minor surface imperfections
  1. Cut-to-Length Processing
  • After leveling, the flat strip is fed into a shear or cutoff system integrated with the line.
  • The Red Bud line cuts the strip into custom-length sheets according to customer specifications.
  • The line can process a variety of gauges and widths, producing parts with tight length and squareness tolerances.
  1. Stacking and Packaging
  • The finished flat sheets are automatically stacked into bundles.
  • Globe Stainless then packages, bands, and labels the sheets for shipment or inventory.
  1. Quality Assurance
  • The leveled sheets are inspected for:
    • Flatness and residual stress
    • Surface quality
    • Dimensional accuracy
  • Red Bud’s advanced leveling technology ensures minimal internal stresses, which improves formability and weldability downstream.

 Why This Matters:

Using a Red Bud leveler allows Globe Stainless to offer flat, distortion-free stainless steel sheets that are ideal for applications like:

  • Laser cutting and stamping
  • Fabrication and welding
  • Precision forming

Shearing

Globe Stainless uses a Cincinnati shear to process stainless steel sheet by cutting leveled or pre-cut material to precise dimensions. The shear is a vital part of their cut-to-size sheet processing capabilities, ensuring tight tolerances, clean edges, and minimal distortion. Here’s how the process works:

  1. Material Setup
  • Sheets of stainless steel, often leveled beforehand using a Red Bud leveler, are manually or automatically positioned on the shear’s feed table.
  • The Cincinnati shear is designed to handle various gauges and alloys, accommodating both light and heavy-duty cutting.
  1. Precision Shearing
  • The operator or automated controls position the sheet under the upper and lower blades of the shear.
  • When activated, the upper blade descends at an angle, shearing the sheet against the stationary lower blade.
  • The Cincinnati shear is engineered for:
    • Clean, straight cuts
    • Minimal burrs
    • Tight dimensional tolerances
  1. Customization & Versatility
  • The shear allows Globe Stainless to offer custom sheet sizes to meet specific customer requirements.
  • Commonly used for trimming:
    • Edges of sheets to remove defects
    • Oversized leveled sheets down to exact dimensions
    • Multiple blanks from a larger sheet
  1. Stacking and Finishing
  • After shearing, sheets are:
    • Stacked manually or using automatic systems
    • Inspected for dimensional accuracy, squareness, and edge quality
    • Labeled, packaged, and prepared for shipment

 Why the Cincinnati Shear Matters:

  • Durability & Reliability: Cincinnati machines are known for rugged design and consistent performance, which supports Globe Stainless’s high-volume and high-precision production.
  • Fast Turnaround: Enables Globe Stainless to quickly respond to orders requiring non-standard sheet sizes.
  • Surface Integrity: Maintains the quality of polished or brushed stainless finishes by preventing distortion and scratching during cutting.

Packaging

Globe Stainless uses custom packaging solutions when shipping all custom orders to ensure that stainless steel products arrive in perfect condition and meet the specific handling or storage needs of each customer. Here’s how they implement custom packaging as part of their value-added services:

  1. Tailored Packaging Design
  • For every custom order—whether it’s coil, sheet, or cut-to-size blanks—Globe Stainless evaluates:
    • Material type and finish (e.g., polished, brushed, or bare)
    • Shape and weight
    • Shipping method (truck, container, air freight)
    • Customer requirements (e.g., clean-room-ready, moisture-sensitive, or forklift-accessible)

They then select or design packaging that protects the product during transit and storage.

  1. Protective Materials Used
  • Cardboard corner guards: Protect edges from impact.
  • Skids or pallets: Custom-built wood or plastic bases allow for safe forklift handling and stacking stability.
